Introduction to Walking and Hiking in the Outdoors

Are you a beginner hiker looking for a few tips and tricks to improve your experience and quell some fears of heading out on the trails? If so, come out to our clinic. Topics include proper preparation, equipment, clothing, packs, shoes, and day hiking gadgetry. This course is introductory and will focus on trail safety, etiquette, and basic hiking principles.

Please review the Difficulty Ratings on the brown banner above before registering. Understanding the 1-through-5 ratings system will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this level-1 activity on the land.

The program is conducted in a seminar/discussion format during the concurrent Wilderness Access Day. Bring a camp chair, warm drink and snacks for the presentation and bring your hiking gear to test your new knowledge out on the trails of the Irvine Open Space Preserve. The trails will be available for self-guided access until 2pm. Walk-ups are welcome to attend.
