Canyon Explorers: Beat the Heat

Canyon Explorers: Beat the Heat

Summer time is a scorching time of year! With the heat upon us, how do the plants and animals stay cool? Light colors, waxy leaves, big ears and hiding underground can keep wildlife staying “cool” during these scorching summer months. Discover how nature adapts to the extreme heat as we take a cooling summertime evening hike.

Reviewing the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this level-2 activity on the land.

This program is a perfect evening adventure for children 6 – 10 years of age. We will spend time exploring our program’s topic out on the trails to better connect our natural history knowledge with the surrounding canyon. Our hike is a 2 – 3 mile trek along uneven terrain, with possible hills and moderate elevation for children. This is not ideal for off-road strollers. Parent or guardian must register and attend along with their child.
