(Shaded) Native Nursery Workday at the Native Seed Farm

Still want to give back to Nature, but need a break from the blazing sun? Come work in the shade this weekend! We will be working at picnic tables in our (shaded!) Nursery area to transplant little natives into bigger pots- a great hands on activity for kids and adults alike. The baby plants you work with will later be planted in our fields to produce next year’s crop of seed!

Tools and training with be provided, and no experience is needed.  After a quick ride to the Farm-site in an open-air safari vehicle, you will get introduced to our facilities and some of our beautiful native plants, and then we’ll get to work!

The plants you are helping us to grow will be used in our Farm growing beds to produce a crop of native seed.  All of the seeds those plants will produce will be used to restore habitat within the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks, and has a direct impact on our local wildlife. Many of the types you’ll help us work with were selected especially by our Ecologists to be food and shelter for rare and beautiful local animals, like the Coastal Cactus Wren and the Quino Checkerspot Butterfly.

Nestled in a small valley with a panoramic view, the Seed Farm has events for you Wednesdays and Saturdays year round. The tasks will change with the seasons, so there is always something new happening! After harvesting season will come more nursery work, weeding, planting and much more!  Helping out at the Farm is a great way to get a dose of Nature and learn about the wild flowers you see out on the trails.

Potting work is easy and can be done sitting or standing. Children 8 years and older are welcome, but please be mindful that some parts of our will day require sustained focus and fine motor skills.

Please review the Difficulty Ratings before registering. Understanding the 1-through-5 ratings system will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this level-1 activity on the land.
