Teachers Night Out: Population Education
The Teachers Night Out series brings all kinds of educators together for fun afternoons of learning exciting hands-on ways to teach children about science and nature. Everyone is invited! Classroom teachers, outdoor educators, scout leaders, homeschool parents – anyone who wants to be a better educator. On April 4th, come join the Environmental Nature Center and Population Education for an interactive, 2-hour professional development workshop. Presenter Helen de la Maza will help us understand global challenges and sustainable solutions through hands-on activities that utilize real world issues and data. Explore interdisciplinary learning strategies that challenge students to make meaningful associations between individuals, communities, and global issues, while building essential skills in social studies, geography, science, and math. Presented activities use role-playing, representational models, group problem-solving, and simulation games to explore the social and environmental impacts of human population growth. Afterwards we’ll enjoy a light meal together and share some wine by the campfire before breaking out the marshmallows and skewers to make some s’mores!

After Work Fitness Hike on Paved Hicks Haul Road: 4th of July Edition
Join us every Wednesday night for a fitness-focused hike on the paved Hicks Haul Road. During the spring, summer and fall, hikers will enjoy wonderful sunset views and a panoramic overview of Orange County. This hike travels about 3.5 miles, up to the top of Loma Ridge and back down. This is a special edition of the weekly After-Work Hike for the July 4th holiday. The activity time has been adjusted to allow time for us to view fireworks atop Hicks Haul Road, weather permitting. We suggest you bring your own chair that you are able to carry easily on your person while hiking.
The hike is conducted at about an average of 3-3.5 miles per hour, but you may travel a bit faster or slower, at a walk, run, or jog depending on your comfort level. Because of the paved surface of the road, you may wear regular running or walking closed-toe shoes. Trail shoes are fine, but not required. Please bring adequate water!
There are no facilities in the viewing location. We are required to remain together at all times while viewing. You will not be able to return to your car during the viewing portion of the activity.
Reviewing the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this level-3 activity on the land.

CANCELLED: OC Parks Volunteer Information Night
*This event has been rescheduled due to inclement weather. Please join us for an OC Parks Volunteer Information Night on April 14th. Click here to register. We look forward to seeing you there!*
Join OC Parks staff and volunteers to learn about the various volunteer opportunities available in many of the OC Parks facilities. Travel around to park booths to meet park staff, ask questions, and learn what a “day in the life” of a typical volunteer at that facility would be like. Visit as many or as few park booths as you are interested in.
This is ideal if you are interested in learning more about the OC Parks Volunteer Program, need assistance getting connected with a park facility, or are an existing volunteer and would like to expand your volunteer role in OC Parks.
Light refreshments will be provided, and parking is free. We look forward to meeting you there!
