Fire Ecology in Fremont

Long dry summers flare up the concern for autumn wildfires in southern California. While fire is a much needed element to help some plants bloom and to keep our habitats healthy, too much fire can be a dangerous thing. We experienced this up close during the Canyon 2 Fire last year. Join us on an interpretive hike through an area that was partially burnt from this fire. We will discuss how wildland firefighters handled the fire here and how the ecosystem is bouncing back from it. This will be a slow paced 3 mile hike with 680 feet of elevation.

Reviewing the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this level-2 activity on the land.
