Irvine Ranch Conservancy is proud to host a Zoom presentation led by Kevin Alison, a leader in conservation and restoration.
We are pleased to have him discuss a beautiful native found on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks, the genus Dudleya. A charismatic group of native succulents, the Dudleya has many rare species across California and Baja. Recent popularity has attracted poachers who uproot these plants by the tens of thousands to supply demands internationally. Kevin will describe his current project utilizing plant tissue culture (Micropropagation) to produce large amounts of select Dudleya species ethically. The goal of this project is to deflate the price incentives for poachers and provide agencies with an additional tool for conservation.
Kevin Alison is an Orange County native and Production Manager at Tree of Life Nursery, a native plant nursery in San Juan Capistrano. Kevin holds degrees in Horticulture and Natural Resource Management and recently achieved a Masters in Conservation and Restoration Science (MCRS) at U.C. Irvine.
We are excited to learn as ambassadors to the Landmarks that these plants are special and can be protected. We can continue to enjoy them in their natural place on the land and notice if poaching is taking place. Join us and learn more about what we can all do together to protect this species.
After registering for this activity you will receive a Zoom link before this event date and time. Thank you for your support of the Irvine Ranch Landmarks.
