Invasive Shothole Borer: Identifying the Damaging Beetle and Impacts on Urban and Native Trees

Irvine Ranch Conservancy invites you to a Zoom presentation on invasive shothole borers, small beetles that have killed tens of thousands of trees in Southern California and remain a threat to both the Natural Landmarks and nearby urban forests. Randall Oliver, statewide ISHB Communications Coordinator with UC Agriculture and Natural Resources, will discuss the pest and its life cycle, trees at risk, impact, what to look for in potentially infested trees, and best management practices. Erin Andreatta, IRC’s Invasive Species Project Manager will discuss steps IRC is taking to manage the beetles on the Natural Landmarks and to help prevent their spread. You may find additional information/handouts/resources on the Invasive Shothole Borer here:  www.ishb.org

Based within the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program, Randall Oliver is the statewide Invasive Shothole Borers (ISHB) Communications Coordinator. Working in coordination with members of the California Invasive Species Advisory Committee and a broad coalition of public and private stakeholders, he develops, implements and manages education and outreach communications regarding the pest and related issues. He also is an active volunteer with the Irvine Ranch Conservancy and holds degrees from the University of Southern California and UCLA (Anderson) Graduate School of Management.
