Keep It Wild – Native Plant Nursery

Join Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteers in beautiful Laguna Coast Wilderness Park at our native plant nursery as we care for native plants from their seed stage to their mature, ready-to-be planted stage. Volunteers may collect seeds, sow seeds in flats, bump plants up, plant at restoration sites, sterilize plant containers, and help maintain the nursery. Gain hands-on experience with habitat restoration while working alongside other zany and interesting plant lovers! Wear closed-toed shoes, layered clothing and sun protection. Bring water.

Second Sunday Restoration

Join Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve staff and volunteers in enhancing the Bay’s habitat for local wildlife. Activities may include non-native plant removal, planting natives, watering, trash cleanup, and Butterfly Garden maintenance. No experience is necessary; please bring a hat, sunscreen, snacks, etc. Water and tools are provided.

CANCELLED: Dripping Springs Trail Restoration

Please join IRC staff and volunteers as we work along the Dripping Springs trail. Spend the morning working through grassland, coastal sage scrub and woodland habitats and then hike to Dripping Springs, a natural water source dripping out of an earthquake fault and down a gorgeous fern-covered rock face. Your work on the trail will benefit the rare plants and animals that this unique feature supports!
Reviewing the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this level-3 activity on the land.

Restoration Day – Watering at Peters Canyon

Lend a helping hand to help improve native habitat in Peters Canyon Regional Park. Dedicate the morning to watering over 200 native plants in a habitat restoration area. Bring strong gardening gloves, trail snacks and water, and wear sun protection and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in.

Volutaria Response Team

Volutaria tubuliflora otherwise known as Egyptian Knapweed is a recently introduced invasive plant to our area and we need your help to get rid of it! It is not yet widespread, and we have a chance to prevent it from taking over at Upper Newport Bay.
During the growing season, we will meet once a month to survey for this nasty pest and remove everything we find. No experience needed!
Minors aged 16 and younger must have legal guardian present at all times.
Rain will cancel the event.
Walk-ins are welcome, but space is limited, so registration is suggested.
