The 26-facility county parks system includes the Irvine Ranch Open Space, comprising Limestone Canyon, Weir Canyon and Fremont Canyon nature preserves, as well as Black Star Canyon Wilderness Park.
Description
Upstream of the Carbon Canyon Dam lies 124-acre Carbon Canyon Regional Park. 60 acres are developed, offering large, grassy areas for picnicking, sports facilities and a 4-acre lake with two piers for fishing. Carbon Canyon Regional Park is home to Orange County’s only grove of redwoods; 3 acres of majestic Coastal Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens). A 1.1-mile nature trail to the park's beautiful Redwood Grove offers a special feature for adventuresome hikers, bird watchers and other amateur naturalists. Five playgrounds, eight lighted tennis courts, two ballfields, three volleyball courts and a native plant garden also offer fun outdoor recreational opportunities for the whole family.
History
Carbon Canyon Park is surrounded by private property on most park boundaries. However, Chino Hills State Park now links with Carbon Canyon at the very east end of the park entrance adjacent to the native garden, butterfly garden and amphitheater. Vehicle entry into Chino Hills is only available off of Highway 71 and parking is limited at Carbon Canyon Park.
