The activities below are offered by a variety of organizations and their dedicated volunteers. All programs are FREE unless noted below. Programs led by IRC-Certified Volunteers require pre-registration, which closes at 4 p.m. on the day prior to the event.  No walk-up registrations will be permitted for these events. Living Historian at the Civil War Cannon

Come chat with a Civil War living historian at the cannon in Irvine Regional Park! The volunteer will share the history of the 1853 Howitzer cannon and how it came to be at its current location. Hear recounts of other historical elements found in and around Irvine Regional Park’s long history as well as the Civil War.

The volunteer may take periodic breaks. Check with the Nature Center on future Civil War reenactor visits! Inclement weather may cancel the program.

You can find the Civil War living historian located at the cannon and Spanish-American War Veterans monument at the lake, near the snack stand and boat house, between Parking Lots U and T.

No registration is required for this program.

Jr. Ranger Adventure: Irvine Regional Park

Jr. Ranger Adventure: Irvine Regional Park

The OC Parks Jr. Ranger Program encourages park guests to explore the outdoor world within OC Parks by developing a sense of belonging, becoming a part of nature and feeling empowered to be stewards of Orange County’s natural and cultural resources.

Participants will explore Irvine Regional Park, complete activities and take the OC Parks Jr. Ranger Oath to earn a unique Jr. Ranger badge. This program will begin outside the Nature Center.

This program is designed for ages 7 to 12, but all are welcome.

Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the program. Sunscreen, sturdy footwear and water are recommended.

The program is free and parking is $3 on weekdays. Inclement weather will cancel the program.

Advance registration is required.

Explore the natural wonders of Irvine Regional Park with OC Parks! Join us on the first Wednesday of each month from 10-11 a.m. for a variety of kid friendly hikes and talks.

This program will begin at parking lot J. Program content is tailored for ages 2 to 6, but all are welcome to attend. Water, comfortable attire and closed-toe shoes are recommended. Strollers are not recommended for this month’s hike.

Seasons Series: Hello Spring!

Orange County may not experience the same seasons as the rest of the country, but signs are there if you know where to look!

Join an OC Parks resource specialist for a walk through Irvine Regional Park to look for the subtle signs that herald an Orange County spring.

This program will begin at parking lot G near the Habitat Adventure Trail.

This is a slow-paced, 2-mile walk along Horseshoe Loop Trail with some elevation gain. Water, sturdy footwear and water are recommended. This hike is not recommended for very small children or strollers. Children must be accompanied by a guardian at all times during the program.

The program is free and parking is $5 per vehicle.

Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is recommended.

Woodland Wellness Walk

Interpretive

Inspired by the Japanese practice of “shinrin-yoku,” or “forest bathing,” this walk invites you to take a break and immerse yourself in the nature around you. Throughout the program you will be encouraged to explore your surroundings using all your senses to deepen your connection with nature.

This is a guided, slow-paced walk with frequent opportunities to meditate and relax, designed for participants ages 16 and older. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat or other comfortable seating and their favorite tea or water for the closing tea ceremony. Please wear comfortable attire and be prepared to walk on uneven terrain.

The program will begin at parking lot Q. Please arrive on time to experience the full sequence of the program.

Advance registration is required.

Inclement weather will cancel the program.

The program is free and parking is $5 per vehicle.

Spring Bird Walk

Join an experienced OC Parks volunteer and stroll through Irvine Regional Park searching high in the trees for flittering friends and low in the scrubs for bouncing birds. Bring your binoculars, sun protection, comfortable shoes and an eye for spotting birds!

This walk begins outside the Nature Center.
