Canyon Explorers: Animal Athletes

Canyon Explorers: Animal Athletes

Animals need to be mighty athletes in order to survive in the wild. From lifting more than their own body weight or standing on one leg for hours at a time, animals use their athletic abilities to hunt, conserve energy and to quickly escape. Test your animal athlete abilities as we take a hike through Bommer Canyon, comparing our jumps to a mule deer, push-ups to a harvester ant and wing beats to a hummingbird.

Reviewing the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this level-2 activity on the land.

This program is a perfect evening adventure for children 6 – 10 years of age. We will spend time exploring our program’s topic out on the trails to better connect our natural history knowledge with the surrounding canyon. Our hike is a 2 – 3 mile trek along uneven terrain, with possible hills and moderate elevation for children. This is not ideal for off-road strollers. Parent or guardian must register and attend along with their child.
