CANCELLED due to Trail Conditions: Weir Canyon Habitat Enhancement

Join us within the beautiful Weir Canyon Nature Preserve! Weir Canyon’s ecologically diverse, but sensitive natural resources are facing pressure from the surrounding urban space. With your help, we will work to protect and enhance the natural habitat by planting small and easy-to-handle prickly pear cactus pads. Once placed in the ground, the single pads will take root and eventually grow into large stands, providing shelter and food for the local wildlife. Upon meeting at the staging area within the Irvine Regional Park, we will drive to the remote planting site in an open-air safari vehicle.

Tools and training will be provided, and no experience is necessary. Please review the Difficulty Ratings before registering. Understanding the 1-through-5 ratings system will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this level-3 activity on the land. Note: Working with the spine-covered prickly pear requires extra attentiveness, protective gloves and tongs will be provided. Please wear sturdy closed toed shoes, long sleeves and long pants.
