Bird Walk at San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary

Bird Walk at San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary

Led by Sea and Sage Audubon Society in partnership with the Irvine Ranch Water District, this free monthly bird walk is a great way to learn more about the wonderful world of birds. Did you know Orange County is along the Pacific Flyway, a migratory bird pathway between Alaska and South America? Come experience spring migration with expert birder Chris Obaditch during this free walk around the freshwater ponds and wooded areas of an urban marsh. Look and listen for migrating warblers, flycatchers, orioles, swallows, shorebirds and more. Watch nesting mallards, black-necked stilts and American avocets in the shallow ponds. Look up for raptors such as osprey, red-tailed hawks, Cooper’s hawks, and peregrine falcons. Special sightings include an egret or heron stalking fish at the edge of the deep ponds. Open to all ages who are interested in bird-watching; children younger than 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring water and sun protection for a walk around water. For directions or further information, please go to www.seaandsageaudubon.org, or contact the Audubon House Volunteer at 949-261-7963. There is no registration required.
