Enjoy the relaxation of riding in the wilderness on empty trails, then join us on this rare opportunity to mountain bike at a relaxed pace through Fremont Canyon and across Sierra Peak. This ride is for experienced off-road riders, in excellent cardio shape, that may need to ride at a relaxed/slower pace or just want the time to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of their surroundings.
We will climb challenging State Spur to Cathedral Rock, and then descend into and out of Fremont Canyon while passing some of Orange County’s most spectacular geological formations. The ride continues out to Lizard Rock and Mini-Moab on the way to Sierra Peak. We will return to the staging area via the Main Divide and a descent down through historic Black Star Canyon.
This ride is a loop entirely on fire roads, but includes sections that are steep (both up and down) and potentially will have loose rocks/soil. These steep sections that may be ‘hike-a-bike’ for some riders. The ride will regroup and rest as needed and multiple opportunities will be provided for a snack break.
Please note, the ride is 25 miles long, with approximately 4200 feet of elevation gain and will take close to 6 hours to complete. It is important that participants bring enough food and water for a ride of this length. This program originates at the Black Star Staging Area on Black Star Canyon Road and ventures into the Fremont Canyon Wilderness Park and the Cleveland National Forest.
Reviewing the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this level-5 activity on the land. Electric Mountain Bikes of any class or type are not permitted.
