CANCELLED due to Trail Conditions: Weekday Slow-paced Mountain Bike Ride – Limestone Canyon to Whiting Ranch

Mountain Biking

Enjoy the relaxation of riding in the wilderness on empty trails and join us on this docent led mountain bike ride through Limestone Canyon and into Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park. We will ride up Limestone Canyon Road and will visit the east viewing platform for the Sinks. The ride will then continue on Mustard Road which offers panoramic views of the entire Sinks geological formation, the Agua Chinon watershed, the Whiting Ranch Red Rocks, Orange County and the Santa Ana Mountains. We will ride into Whiting Ranch to the turn-around point at the Vista Lookout.

Reviewing the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this level-4 activity on the land. Electric Mountain Bikes of any class or type are not permitted.

This is a slow-paced ride designed for the beginner to intermediate rider who is in excellent cardio shape and is physically fit, but sometimes needs to move slower on steep ascents/descents. This ride is entirely on fire roads, but based on the group may include the Limestone Ridge single track. A few climbs have steep sections that may be ‘hike-a-bike’ for some riders. The ride will regroup and rest as needed and an opportunity will be provided for a snack break at the Vista Lookout.
Please note, the ride is a strenuous 17 miles long, with approximately 2000 feet of elevation gain. This program originates at the Augustine Staging Area in Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve area and ventures into Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park.
