The Irvine Ranch Conservancy is proud to host the Naturalist Notebook Series, which offers a variety topics to enhance your knowledge of the Landmarks and California open spaces.
In 1769, Captain Gaspar de Portolá led the first Spanish overland expedition through what is now Orange County. This year marks the 250th anniversary of that turning point in California history. The journals taken during the march provide us with our first written descriptions of the area and its native inhabitants. Historians Phil Brigandi and Eric Plunkett will present a description of the expedition, discuss the encounters with the Native Americans, and trace the trail through Orange County. The presenter’s extensive research is in preparation for a new book on Portolá’s expedition.
Registration is required. We welcome volunteers, their guests, and the public.
All Irvine Ranch Conservancy volunteers please register for this event as a trainee to earn continuing education volunteer hours. Space is limited.
