Think you would enjoy a challenging. but relaxing evening biking in the wilderness on empty trails with both a sunset and a nice view of city lights, then join us on this summer time ride through Weir, Blind and Fremont Canyons. This ride is for experienced off-road riders, in excellent cardio shape, that have some experience with evening/night riding.
Please review the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings to help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this program. This program has the distance/elevation of a level 5 program, but the ride time can accommodate a slower pace. Motorized recreation vehicles of any class or type are not permitted for recreational use.
The route exits Irvine Regional Park and goes into Weir Canyon. We will ride Weir Canyon Road and Upper Blind to the Fremont Weather Station. Depending on timing and trail conditions, we may ride on the new Overlook Trail in Weir Canyon or go out Windy Ridge past the Fremont Weather Station. We will return in twilight/night to Irvine Regional Park on the fast descent to the Fremont Staging area. The ride will regroup mid-ride and just prior to the final descent to the staging area.
Please note, the ride is 12 to 15 miles long, with approximately 2000-2500 feet of elevation gain. Note that there are some steeps sections on the climbs that might be hike-a-bike for some riders. It is important that participants bring enough food and water for a ride of this length and the weather conditions. This program originates in Irvine Regional Park at Lot P, and ventures into the Weir Canyon and Fremont Canyon Wilderness Parks.
