Visit (Virtually) Nature in your Backyard for Kids: Native Owls of Orange County

Virtually experience the natural wonders of Orange County.  Virtual Nature Experience for Kids and Families

We will use Zoom technology to bring nature to you.  This in-person live discussion includes storybooks, activities, and a craft we begin together. Please have your craft materials listed below ready before we meet.

In this session, we will explore the native owls of Orange County. Where do they live? What do they eat? How do they survive? We will explore fun facts and interesting things,  I bet you never knew!

You will be sent a link to join the activity via a Zoom webinar a day prior to the activity.

To prepare for the activity, we ask that you obtain the following items prior to joining us online:

For the craft, you will need a pine cone (a good prerequisite that will require you to explore outside or visit one of our local parks with pine trees), a few (4-5) cotton balls,(Orange and Yellow) construction paper, scissors, an orange crayon, and a black marker (or crayon).  The other option for the craft is a coloring exercise.

A .pdf files will be attached to your confirmation to download.  An easy owl and a more advanced owl depending on your child’s coloring expertise.

To learn more about nature in your backyard and the land the Irvine Ranch Conservancy manages, please EXPLORE the Landmarks.  To go on a virtual hike visit our IRNaturalLandmarks Channel

Book reading during the discussion will be fun for all ages but is geared toward 4-6-year-olds. Content learning is for all ages but recommended for ages between 4-9 for related crafts, songs, and nature content.

Making your pine cone owl will be fun! Or personalizing your own owl in the provided .pdf owl outline will be exciting.
