In collaboration with the OC chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS), Irvine Ranch Conservancy will be leading a guided botany hike, for their members and guests, of Dripping Springs and Limestone Canyon. May will be a great time to explore Irvine Ranch as it will be the beginning of peak native annual flower season. Many native flowers (such as clarkias, cardinal catchfly, goldenstar, and thistles) will be starting to wake up and display a fantastic array of colors throughout the trails.
Dripping Springs is a year-round spring in the middle of Limestone Canyon that is expressed through the side of a vertical rock face. Famous for its lush ferns (Adiantum capillus-veneris) and uncommon annual flowers (Epipactus gigantea, Monardella hypoleuca ssp. intermedia, and many others), Dripping Springs is an extremely sensitive area and an essential watering hole for wildlife in Limestone Canyon. Limestone Canyon is only accessible through scheduled programing only, so this is a unique opportunity to explore a less-trafficked area in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains.
