Programs led by IRC-Certified Volunteers require pre-registration, which closes at 4 p.m. on the day prior to the event. No walk-up registrations will be permitted for these events. Independence Day Fireworks Night Hike
Join us for what’s sure to be an exciting evening of watching the fireworks from atop the hills in Irvine’s Open Space. This is a moderately-challenging hike geared toward experienced hikers with appropriate hiking shoes. Come and enjoy a little nighttime in the wilderness and celebrate our country’s independence. Flashlights are recommended, red tinting preferred.
Bring a lightweight chair or blanket, which you can carry up the trail, to sit on while watching the fireworks. The viewing location that we will be using is on an incline. Hiking poles are recommended; bring binoculars to watch the fireworks. Wear appropriate clothing layers, it will be warm hiking up and cool while watching the fireworks.

Shhh…Hike, Look and Listen
Would you like to end your day walking quietly through open spaces and wildflowers under the evening sky? Shed the day’s repetitions and join us at dusk for a quiet, meditative “slow walk” into Baker Canyon’s meadow, mindful of all that is happening around us. Wear sturdy shoes and comfortable clothing, and be prepared for cooler evening temperatures in the canyon. Bring water and flashlights for this tranquil two-hour evening program.

Tuesday Evening Hike- Bommer Canyon
Wind down your day with a hike in the beautiful Irvine open space. Enjoy the evening while hiking the East Fork and Ridge Route loop. This hike is just over 3 miles and experiences 700 feet of total climbing elevation including several short, steep inclines. Please be prepared with plenty of water and closed toe, sturdy shoes. The evenings are full of fun sounds and smells and this will be a great way to decompress after a busy day.

Family Hike – Round Canyon
Enjoy nature with friends and family in Round Canyon. We will hike along a fairly flat trail as we watch for red-tailed hawks and mule deer.
The hike will average 2-3 miles round trip at an easy pace with a medium level of interpretation. This program is for participants who would like a slower-paced and level hike. Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, and bring water for the hike. Be ready to enjoy the sounds and smells of the early evening.

Buck Gully Reserve Upper Loop Evening Hike
Explore the richness of Newport Beach’s Buck Gully Reserve as we hike during a beautiful spring evening. The stream is running and the diverse plant life is growing and blooming, making for a fantastic evening hike in a natural oasis amid the suburban surroundings. For a short distance, we’ll walk along San Joaquin Hills Road which overlooks Buck Gully, and then drop down into the canyon on the Bobcat Trail and loop back through the upper end of the gully along the Buck Gully Trail.

Gear up for this amazing star gazing night as we capture this summer’s meteor shower! Our evening will begin with warm up hike to our peak where we will stretch out under the stars to capture one of this season’s spectacular outer galactic shows! We will view the different stars, constellations and tell stories of astronomy folklore as we watch for meteors crossing the night sky.
