This hike is just over 3 miles and experiences 700 feet of total climbing elevation including several short, steep inclines. Please be prepared with plenty of water and closed toe, sturdy shoes. How about a family picnic dinner in Bommer Canyon?  Bring your own picnic dinner to enjoy prior to a brief hike through Bommer.  The first 30-40 minutes of the program are dedicated to enjoying the dinner that you bring to the Cattle Camp picnic grounds. Bring food that is already prepared. No cooking is allowed.  Dinner is followed up by a 1.5-to-2- hour evening hike.

The hike averages 2-3 miles round trip at an easy pace with a medium level of interpretation. This program is for participants who would like a slower-paced and level hike.

Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, and bring water for the hike. Be ready to enjoy the sounds and smells of the early evening.

Gear up for this amazing star gazing night as we capture this winter’s meteor shower! Our evening begins with a short one-mile hike to warm us up in the cool winter’s air; then we will stretch out under the stars to capture one of this season’s spectacular outer galactic shows! We will view the different stars, constellations and tell stories of astronomy folklore as we watch for meteors crossing the night sky. Please dress in many warm layers as the evening is cool against the canyon. Also, you are welcome to bring your own blankets and chairs to sit and enjoy the show.

The two and a half mile out and back route has a gradual incline the entire way out, but the hike is done at a moderate pace. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes. This hike is suitable for children age 8 and up.

Celebrate the lengthening of the days with Resource Specialist Laura Cohen on a slow 2.0-mile hike over sometimes steep and uneven terrain (400-ft. elevation gain) on the week of the solstice. Take a few minutes to meditate on the ridge and at the end of the hike. Bring water and good walking shoes and dress in layers, as the canyon can get cool in the evening. No experience necessary.
