The activities below are offered by a variety of organizations and their dedicated volunteers. All programs are FREE unless noted below. Programs led by IRC-Certified Volunteers require pre-registration, which closes at 4 p.m. on the day prior to the event.  No walk-up registrations will be permitted for these events.     Note: Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for these events. For programs requiring online registration, each adult and child must be registered.

Restoration Day - Planting at Peters Canyon

Lend a helping hand to help improve native habitat in Peters Canyon Regional Park. Dedicate the morning to planting native shrubs that will encourage the local wildlife to thrive. We will place dozens of plants into the ground and water the freshly placed plants. Bring strong gardening gloves, trail snacks and water, and wear sun protection and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in.

World Wetlands Day Trash Cleanup

Every year, winter rains push tons of trash down river beds, flood control channels, and storm sewers and it all ends up in Newport Bay.

In recognition of World Wetlands Day, join us for a trash cleanup in the back bay to help prevent all this plastic and other trash from ending up in the Ocean.

Participants should come prepared to get muddy! Gloves, bags, and all tools will be provided.

Minors aged 16 and younger must have legal guardian present at all times.

Rain will cancel the event.

Walk-ins welcome, but registration is suggested.

Please join IRC staff and volunteers as we work along the Dripping Springs trail.  Spend the morning working through grassland, coastal sage scrub and woodland habitats and then hike to Dripping Springs, a natural water source dripping out of an earthquake fault and down a gorgeous fern-covered rock face. Your work on the trail will benefit the rare plants and animals that this unique feature supports!

Keep It Wild – Laguna Coast

Keep It Wild - Laguna Coast

Join Laguna Canyon Foundation and OC Parks at one of our habitat restoration stewardship events in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park as we work together to create a healthier habitat for the native plants and wildlife that call the canyon their home. Depending on the time of year, volunteers will assist with various stewardship activities, including removal of non-native plants, seed collection, and/or planting of native plants. No experience is necessary and all tools will be provided.  Please wear long pants, closed-toed shoes and sun protection, and bring water. Come out and join the team to help restore the wild lands we all enjoy!

Tecate Cypress Stewardship Day

Tecate Cypress Stewardship Day

The Tecate Cypress is a rare species found only in southern California and northern Baja California.  The northern most population in the Santa Ana Mountains is in severe decline due to too-frequent wildfires. In effort to protect this rare species, locally genetic trees will be planted in Fremont Canyon, in close proximity to the staging area.

Please be aware that you may be instructed to use tools for this activity such as; but not limited to, pliers, mallets, trowels and shovels.
