Programs led by IRC-Certified Volunteers require pre-registration, which closes at 4 p.m. on the day prior to the event. No walk-up registrations will be permitted for these events. Enjoy Nature’s Story, Vistas, and Special Places – Beginner Hike to Top of Red Rock Ridge
Embark on a leisurely beginner’s hike among the easy rolling hills of Red Rock Wilderness, nestled within OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space. Traverse the rugged terrain on former ranch roads, surrounded by the woodlands, grand oak trees and the vast stretches of Coastal Sage Scrub. We’ll use small trails to ascend to the top of Red Rock Ridge for grand views. Total round-trip distance is 3.5 miles with an elevation gain of 500 feet at an average moving rate of 2.0-2.5 miles per hour. Please come prepared with a backpack, plenty of water, snacks, sturdy closed-toe hiking shoes or boots, sunscreen, first aid kit, and all other supplies to keep you safe and healthy on the trail. Each hiker must carry their own water and supplies.

Thursday Morning Trek in the Red Rock Wilderness
Take in stunning views of the surrounding hillsides and hike atop the iconic red rocks at the newly opened Red Rock Wilderness, part of OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space.
This morning hike will guide visitors through beautiful hills and valleys to the top of the infamous red rocks and past a model airplane field. Spectacular views of Irvine Lake and the Irvine Ranch Open Space will be enjoyed along the way.

We will hike around 8 miles at a 3.5 mph pace through coastal sage brush and see views of the surrounding Limestone and Black Star Wilderness areas. This hike is designed for fit individuals who relish the challenge of a brisk outdoor adventure. Please bring a minimum 70 oz. of water. Come prepared with a pack, sturdy closed-toed hiking shoes or boots, sunscreen, first aid, and all other supplies to keep you safe and healthy on the trail. Each participant must carry his or her own pack and water. Under-prepared participants may be denied access to this activity.

Distance Hike into Red Rock Wilderness
Come along with us on this scenic distance hike across Loma Ridge into the newly opened Red Rock Wilderness, part of OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space. This hike involves numerous ups and downs on groomed and maintained trails and is done at a moderate moving pace of around 3 mph. As we pass across the top of the Red Rocks, the panoramic view of the surrounding area is nothing short of spectacular.
