New Moon Hike in Peters Canyon

Half the park is after dark! Come explore the nocturnal sights and sounds as we hit the trails on this leisure night hike. It’s chilly after sunset so wear warm layers, sturdy footwear, water, and bring red tinted flashlight if possible. This will help to keep our night vision from being impacted by any bright light.
This hike is not recommended for very small children or strollers. No pets please. Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian during the program.
For questions, please contact Resource Specialist, Kelley Brugmann at 714-973-6625 or Kelley.Brugmann@ocparks.com

Meteor Shower Viewing in Peters Canyon – SATURDAY

Enjoy the evening night sky lit up by the cascading flashes of meteors! The Perseids Meteor Shower is an annual event in the middle of August, producing about 100 meteors an hour. This year will be closer to a new moon, so with a quick eye, you may catch many glimpses of a flash of light streaking across the sky. You’ll hear astronomy folklore, search for different constellations, and discover nocturnal critters that call the canyon home. Bring your own blankets and chairs to sit and enjoy the nighttime show! An optional night hike is available, but will take time away from relaxing under the sky.
Dress warmly in layers as the evening becomes quite cool. Program is free though there is a Park Entrance Fee per vehicle. For questions, please contact Resource Specialist, Kelley Brugmann at 714-973-6625 or Kelley.Brugmann@ocparks.com
