Restoration and Resilience: Celebrate National Public Lands Day with Partners at the Native Seed Farm

Join Irvine Ranch Conservancy at our Native Seed Farm on September 22, 2018 from 8:00am to 1:00pm for National Public Lands Day to learn what local conservation managers near you are doing to restore habitat for Orange County’s native plants and animals. Then roll up your sleeves and help pick some native seed that will be used on restoration projects for Irvine Ranch Conservancy!

Innovative and ambitious restoration projects are going on all over the place! Talk to representatives from the Bolsa Chica Conservancy and the California Native Plant Society – Orange County Chapter to discover how you can volunteer on their projects! You are also invited to help out right away by harvesting seed from our Farm. This will be used out in the wild to regrow animal habitats within Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks.

All attendees are required to register online. If you are interested in harvesting seed, please arrive promptly by 8:45am. Seed harvesting will take place from 9:00am to 11:30am. If you are not participating in the seed harvest and would like to learn about restoration projects from other organizations and how you can volunteer, you may come anytime between 8:00am and 1:00pm. Space is limited for the seed harvest.

People of all ages may attend, though the optional seed harvesting portion requires participants to be 8 years and older. Please note our Minors Policy as noted on the letsgooutside.org website: All minors (under 18 years of age) must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. They must also (both parent and minor) be registered for the Irvine Ranch Conservancy led program they wish to attend.

For all people visiting the Native Seed Farm, please note that the ground is gravel/dirt and can be dusty. If you will be harvesting seed with us, close-toed shoes are required and we recommend you dress in long, loose layers. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle. Lastly, be sure to carpool to be more earth-friendly! Thank you and see you there!

Reviewing the 1-5 Difficulty Ratings will help you evaluate your readiness to participate in this Level 1 activity.
