Great Backyard Bird Count at Upper Newport Bay (Day 2)

Interpretive

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a national citizen science initiative that allows anyone of any age to make a meaningful contribution to bird conservation and protection. Each checklist submitted during the GBBC helps researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society learn more about how birds are doing, and how to protect them and the environment we share. Last year, more than 160,000 participants submitted their bird observations online, creating the largest instantaneous snapshot of global bird populations ever recorded.

For this family friendly event, we will gather at the Muth Center and learn how to submit bird count data and then hit the trail to count some birds! OC Parks staff will teach guests how to identify our local bird species as we go.

Participants can expect to walk 2-3 miles over uneven terrain.

Minors aged 16 and younger must have legal guardian present at all times. Rain will cancel the event.

Registration required. For more information call (949) 923-2250 or email unbic@ocparks.com
