Programs led by IRC-Certified Volunteers require pre-registration, which closes at 4 p.m. on the day prior to the event. No walk-up registrations will be permitted for these events. Orchard Hills Evening Hike
Come out and enjoy the evening with us on the Orchard Hills loop trail. This trail meanders around an avocado orchard on the edge of the open space preserve and provides fantastic ridge-top views of Irvine and the Pacific coastline.
The three-mile loop has several very steep climbs, but the hike is done at a moderate pace. The effort is rewarded with a beautiful, unobstructed view to the west. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes. This hike is not suitable for children under 12.

Sunset Yoga in Bommer Canyon
Join us for this relaxing combination of hiking and yoga in Bommer Canyon. Participants will hike around a 1-mile loop, strolling through the local meadow and finding unity within nature. Then we will return to our yoga mats where we will be led in 45 to 60 minutes of guided yoga, as the canyon slowly calms down from the day.
Please wear comfortable clothes and bring a durable yoga mat to rest on the dirt. An extra cloth or padding is highly recommended, in addition to two towels for yoga positioning assistance. Some evenings are chilly, so dress in layers that are flexible to move in; jeans are not recommended. Remember to wear sun protection for the hike such as a hat and sunscreen.

Celebrate Cultures in Nature: de Leyendas del Coyote/Coyote Folkore
Discover unique historical tales about the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks as we celebrate different cultures together! Each month, a different culture and celebration will be highlighted, usually with the program presented in multiple languages which will allow for everyone to fully enjoy the beauty of the land.
Coyote Folklore Family Hike/ Caminata Familiar de Leyendas del Coyote
Come enjoy an evening hike as you and your family hike a two mile paved road on Hicks Haul Road, with various stops to listen to Mexican folklore inspired by the “mischievous” coyote. As we travel at a slow pace you will get the opportunity to smell the summer evening air in the canyon, and look for sights and sounds of the coyote. The hike will average 2 miles round trip at an easy pace with a medium level of interpretation presented both in English and in Spanish. Please wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, and bring water for the hike.
Disfrute el atardecer con su familia en una caminata de camino pavimentado de dos millas ida y vuelta en Hicks Haul Road. Con varias paradas para escuchar leyendas inspiradas por el coyote. Mientras caminamos a paso lento tendremos la oportunidad de oler el aire de una noche de verano en el cañón y escuchar los sonidos del coyote. Slow-Paced Fitness Hike on Paved Hicks Haul Road
Enjoy an evening fitness hike through stunning rock formations and fragrant native plants as you listen to the sounds of nature. This hike is done at your own pace as a walk, jog, or run (speed range typically 2.5 to 3.5 mph), so is suitable for beginners who are just starting their fitness program as well as more experienced hikers who are looking for a workout. This out-and-back program travels the 3.5 mile route to scenic Loma Ridge (450′ elevation gain) and back down, with most participants completing the route in about 1.5 hours. The hike is family-friendly, but children must be closely supervised by an adult and able to hike with the group, or be safely carried by a strong adult or secured in a jogging stroller.

Come end your day with a quiet walk through the calming canyons on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. We will watch for soaring red-tailed hawks, listen to birds quietly sing, and inhale the fragrance of fresh sage. Shed away the day’s repetitions and join us as we take a “slow walk” into Baker or Black Star Canyons, mindful of all that is happening around us. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight and be prepared for the canyon’s cooler evening temperatures by wearing warm layers. Take in the tranquil evening as we quietly walk along the trails.

The hike averages 2-3 miles round trip at an easy pace with a medium level of interpretation. This program is for participants who would like a slower-paced and level hike.

CANCELLED due to Trail Conditions: Intermediate Evening Mountain Bike Ride: Limestone
Explore Limestone Canyon by night on this intermediate mountain bike night ride. We will ride out of Augustine to The Sinks, and along Limestone Ridge or Limestone Valley, depending on the group. Please plan for a distance between 10 and 15 miles. Hopefully we will see some wildlife, but we certainly will have an adventure!
Trails include natural hazards such as sand, tree roots, exposed rocks, and ruts. Expect several steep climbs on this 12-mile ride with an elevation gain of 2,600 feet. This night ride is for experienced adult riders. Lights required. Arrive 15 minutes early we leave promptly at 6:00PM.

Enjoy an early evening family hike in Agua Chinon, part of the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. We hike a gradual climb of 500 ft elevation of as we watch for red-tailed hawks and mule deer. The hike will average 3 miles round trip at an easy pace with a medium level of interpretation.
This program is for participants who would enjoy a slower-paced gradual climb hike. Hikers should be in good health able to do a beginning hike over a variety of terrains. Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, and bring water for the hike. Be ready to enjoy the sounds and smells of early evening.

Buck Gully Upper Loop Evening Hike
Explore the richness of Newport Beach’s Buck Gully Reserve as we hike during the beautiful early evening hours. The stream is running and the rich plant and animal life is enjoying the cool, shady canyon, making for a fantastic evening hike in a natural oasis amid the suburban surroundings. We’ll walk along San Joaquin Hills Road, which overlooks Buck Gully, for the first mile and then drop down into the canyon on the Bobcat Trail, looping back through the upper end of the gully along the Buck Gully Trail. This activity is conducted at a walking pace, approximately 3 miles per hour.
PLEASE NOTE: Poison oak grows in abundance throughout the entire Buck Gully Reserve trail system. If you are susceptible to poison oak, please plan accordingly.
