Invasive Plant Removal Training

Invasive Plant Removal Training

If you have ever hiked the trails at OC Parks and wanted to do more to help restore our native habitat, this program is for you!

This program will cover identification of invasive species of concern (old and emerging species), best practices for their removal, on and off trail safety, as well as an introduction to Calflora which helps the county map areas of concern and tracks our progress in the fight for habitat restoration.

There will be great information provided and a sign-up sheet at the event to learn more about getting involved in future volunteer-only restoration projects. This program will be presented by two great volunteers, Mark Bowler and Maria Alonso, who recently presented at the California Park Ranger Association Conference last March and have been kind enough to share their knowledge with us as they begin work at Santiago Oaks.

This program is a volunteer only lecture with Q&A for all your invasive plant questions. Time permitting, we will hit the trails to get tips on identifying these species in person.

Space is limited and registration is required for this program. This class is open to volunteers from all facilities. Please be prepared to show your volunteer badge at the front entrance for free entry. Dressing comfortably with shoes for walking the trails recommended. Water and snacks are permitted in the classroom.

For questions regarding this program, please reach out to Resource Specialist, Shelly Marshall at shelly.marshall@ocparks.com or (657) 253-3681.
